FALL🍂 & WINTER ❄️ SKINCARE ESSENTIALS

When the weather changes, so does our skin

As the temperatures drop and winter sets in, the fight to protect your skin begins. The colder months bring low humidity levels, harsh winds, and indoor heating—all of which can strip moisture from your skin, leaving it dry and irritated. If you've noticed your skin feeling tight or flaky, you're not alone. I'm here to help you understand how to keep your skin glowing throughout the chilly season.

1. Avoid Hot Showers

While a hot shower can be tempting on a chilly day, it can actually do more harm than good for your skin. Hot water strips your skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. Opt for lukewarm showers instead, and try to limit your shower time to 10 minutes or less. After showering, gently pat yourself dry with a towel rather than rubbing. This reduces friction and helps keep the moisture in your skin.

2. Use a Humidifier

Indoor heating systems can dry out the air in your home, which in turn can dry out your skin. Using a humidifier adds moisture back into the air, helping to keep your skin hydrated.

I linked a few recommendations for humidifiers:

Large Room Humidifier

Bedroom Humidifier

3. Protect Your Skin from the Elements

Wind and cold temperatures can be harsh on your skin, so it's important to protect it when you're outside. Wear a scarf or a hat to shield your face and neck from the wind.Your hands are often exposed to the elements, making them more susceptible to dryness and cracking. Invest in a good pair of gloves to protect them from the cold.

4. GENTLY Exfoliate

Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover, but it's important to be gentle, especially in the winter. Over-exfoliating can strip your skin of its natural oils and cause irritation. Use a gentle exfoliant once or twice a week to keep your skin smooth without causing damage.

Here is my recommended gentle exfoliants:

Purify Enzyme Cleanser

A deeper cleanse to remove dry, dead skin layers.

Polish MD Enzyme Exfoliant

Use 2-4 times a month to gently exfoliate and allow your skin to breathe, ready for serums.

5. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

One of the most important steps in combating dry skin is moisturizing. Choose a rich, hydrating moisturizer. Apply your moisturizer immediately after showering or washing your face to trap in as much moisture as possible.

Here’s my recommended moisturizers for the colder seasons:

Enrich Face & Neck Moisturizer

A rich formula to keep your skin hydrated and protected against harsh winds.

Remedy MD Barrier Repairing Mask

Perfect for those extra dry days—especially after hitting the slopes!

TIP: Use as a mask or as a targeted treatment around the eyes, nose, and mouth.

6. Nourish Your Skin with Oils

Facial oils can provide an extra layer of protection and nourishment during the colder months. Apply a few drops to your face after moisturizing to lock in hydration.

My recommended face oil:

Immerse Restorative Facial Oil

Use as an overnight treatment for an extra layer of hydration.

TIP: You can also use this for Gua Sha & face massage.

7. Protect Your Lips

Lips are particularly vulnerable to cold weather. Use a moisturizing lip balm containing ingredients like shea butter or beeswax to prevent chapping and maintain lip hydration.

Favorite lip treatment:

C.O. Bigalow Nighttime Lip Treatment

8. Adjust Skincare Products

The most crucial step is to adjust your skincare routine to the changing climate. This involves using products that provide extra protection. Serums play a vital role in repairing and protecting your skin during colder seasons. They offer concentrated nutrients and can effectively promote cell turnover, combating the extra dry top layer of your skin.

Benefits of Using Serums:

  • Serums can help repair damaged skin by promoting healthy cell turnover.

  • They provide essential nutrients that penetrate deeper layers of the skin.

  • Look for serums with ingredients such as vitamin C, retinol, and peptides.

Here are my top recommended serums combat dry skin this season:

Renew MD Advanced Retinal Serum

Promotes cell turnover and repairs your skin, keeping it healthy and glowing.

By incorporating these tips into your daily regimen, you can protect your skin from harsh winter conditions and maintain a healthy, glowing complexion. Don't forget to listen to your skin's needs and adjust your products accordingly. Here's to a hydrated and happy winter skin!
