Mostly Homemade Gluten Free/Guilt Free Pizza

Making pizza at home can be healthy, especially when you have control over the ingredients. For those of us who are gluten intolerant or simply prefer a healthier alternative, making a gluten-free, guilt-free pizza is easier than you might think. Here's my go-to recipe!

🍕 Why Gluten-Free?

Whether you have celiac disease, a gluten sensitivity, or are just looking to cut down on gluten for health reasons, a gluten-free diet can have many benefits. But that doesn’t mean you have to give up on your favorite foods like pizza. With a few smart choices, you can enjoy a delicious, gluten-free pizza that satisfies your cravings without any guilt.

🍕 Key Tips for Making a Homemade Gluten-Free Pizza

1. Start with a Great Crust

While making a crust from scratch can be rewarding, I prefer to save time by using a pre-made, gluten-free crust. My favorite is from Cappello's. Their crust has great ingredients and provides the perfect base for our healthy pizza.

2. Make Your Own Sauce

Store-bought sauces can be convenient, but nothing beats the flavor of a homemade sauce. Plus, it's incredibly easy to make. Here's my quick and delicious recipe:

🥫 Ingredients: (always all organic)

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 1 can of tomato sauce

  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 tsp dried basil

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • Dash of salt to taste

  • Chili Flakes (optional)

🍅 Instructions:

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Add the garlic and onion, cooking until they become fragrant and translucent.

  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, dried basil, oregano & dash of salt to bring out the flavors of the tomato.

  4. Simmer on low for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  5. Set aside to cool slightly before spreading it on your pizza crust.

3. Choose Your Toppings

This is where you can really get creative. Here are some of my favorite toppings:

🍕 Toppings:

  • Sausage or I like the uncured pepperoni from Applegate

  • Sliced red onions

  • Kalamata olives

  • Sliced jalapenos

Add any other veggies or proteins you love. The beauty of homemade pizza is that you can tailor it to your taste.

4. Shred Your Own Cheese

Avoid pre-shredded mozzarella cheese. It often contains anti-caking agents like cellulose (wood shavings) to prevent the pieces from sticking together. Shredding your own mozzarella ensures a fresher taste and better melt. Trust me, it makes a difference! I like a raw mozzarella from Lykens Valley Creamery.

Putting It All Together

  1. Preheat your oven according to the instructions on your pre-made crust package.

  2. Spread your homemade pizza sauce evenly over the crust.

  3. Add your favorite toppings generously.

  4. Top with freshly shredded mozzarella cheese.

  5. Bake as directed by the crust package or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Enjoy Your Gluten-Free, Guilt-Free Pizza

That’s it! You’ve made a delicious, healthy pizza that’s free from gluten and full of flavor. This recipe is not only great for those with dietary restrictions but also for anyone looking to enjoy a wholesome meal without sacrificing taste.

xo,

Jamie
